Preface
The following publication originated from my conducting for a short time the Northumberland Gazette, to enable the Printer of that paper to proceed more expeditiously with a work of Dr. Priestley’s then in the press. A second edition of the essays published in that paper while I was the Editor of it, has been called for; but as many of them are on subjects too local to be generally interesting, I have omitted some and substituted others in their room. I have not lei-sure to make them as correct as I could wish. Such as they are I submit them with deference to the public.
